On the web site shown below shows Samuel Nuckles as the son of Obadiah...also is this article on Obediah

Obediah is an acknowledged illegitimate son of Jonathan(John Byas). Amherst Deed Book V,pg 327, John Bias deeded the place where he lived, containing 100 acres adjoining the lands of Richard S. Ellis, Talbert and Noel, to Obediah for his past and continuing love and affection during a long affliction. " I bear to my natural son Obediah Knuckles for $1.00 "Signed 8/31/1835 by John Byas. This was recorded on 4/15/1836 after Archibald Reynolds, John Gue and Thos P. Eubank swore their witness approval. (Note-This is the only reference found that John Bias may have been the father of Obediah).

In 1878, Amherst County records list R.Beverly,W.B. Johns and Obediah a s defendants in a case with a man named Hassley.

In deed book LL,pg 332,on 3/3/1879,Obediah declared a Homestead deed in the amount of $566.92 to be free of any levy, garnishment or sale by any legal authority or demand.
On 10/3/1884,deed book PP, pg 261,he declared another homestead exempti on of an additional $435.00.

Deed Book BB,pg 217-Obediah and Belindy sold 100 acres to Henry S. Tayl or on

Obediah listed on 1820,1830 &1840 censuses as Head of household Amherst 1860 census lists the following:
O Nuckles 75 M farmer $200
B Nuckles 40 F Security or witness to their wedding was Rosemary Gue, m ale, relationship to Belinda not specified.

Web site sent to me by a Gue cousin:

Text: Amherst County Court Clerks Office May 7, 1860-311-Registered by order of April Court 1860 Obediah Nuckles a free man of colour-bright complexion-5 feet 10 3/4 inches high-small scar between eye brows-no other scar apparent on head face or hands-born in Amherst and descended from ancestors free before the 1st day of May 1806.

"of colour" can mean was either Black or Indian. I do not know anyone personally from this line, so don't know which is their ancestry.
