Gue Family Genealogy Forum

Dear Robin
I have read your interesting e-mail but I do not have any information regarding any Gue's leaving England for the US. All of the Gue's are Huegenots. The word Huegenot is not a name of a family but the title that Protestants were given by the Catholics. Most of the Gue's originated from the area around Poitiers in France. There is a river in that region called the Gue. There is an accent over the e. Most of the families originally escaped from central France and the Paris region to Brittany and from there they travelled to England the US, Canada and the Carribean. One of my ancestors was the architect of the capital of Haiti, he lived there for 20 years and was then murdered by his servants. However his wife and children escaped back to France, to Bordeaux in fact, where his descendants still live. This is the family I am related to, in fact my wife and I have been to their home and they are coming to stay with us in April. There is still a family living in Cherbourg who also come from the same original families who escaped to Brittany. The first country they escaped to was England and some went on to the US and some stayed. The first of my family to arrive here did so in about 1570. I have nothing in my records of any going to the US although we know some did but records are very sketchy around that time. I would be interested to hear more from you regarding your descendants.
Best regards
Michael Gue
