ATHENS - George W. Gudgel, 88, of Athens died Sunday, Nov. 19, 2006, at his home.
He was born July 18, 1918, near Athens, the son of Harry and Fannie Cole Gudgel. He married Agnes Elliot in 1970; she died in 1994.
Mr. Gudgel retired as a foreman from Jones & Blythe Construction after several years. He was a life member and secretary of Van Meter Lodge 762 in Athens and life member of United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America Local 16. He also was a member of Ansar Shrine and served as a Boy Scout leader for several years.
Survivors: two stepdaughters, Margaret Seiz of Springfield and Sara Riley of Orland Park; three sisters, Kathryn Carter of Athens and Betty Andreatta and Rose Molohon, both of Springfield; and several stepgrandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Services: 10 a.m. Wednesday, Mott & Henning Funeral Home, Athens, the Rev. Ken Gennicks officiating. Burial: Joel Hall Cemetery, Athens.
