Believe John M. Gudgel was a grandson or step grandson of my gg g grandmother Mrs. Rachel Casteel whose husband, Joseph Casteel, died in the 1820s probably in KY and she married a Gudgel either in KY or OH. Her son, Joseph (Thomas Jefferson) Casteel, Jr., born ca. 1811, married in Warren Co., OH in 1828 and needed permission of Rachel Gudgel, his mother as he was underage. Joseph Casteel was in Putnam Co., IL at least by 1850.

Would like to know more about the ancestry of John Gudgel.
