John' Jacky Guard 'from Galway Ireland. Sentenced 7 years Transportation 1n 1810. Age 10 years. Survives to become a whaling ship captain. Starts the first whaling station at Te Arapawa Island Marlborough Sounds, New Zealand. Son from Betty , John Jacky jr. first white child born South Island NZ 1821 (?) Voyage from Australia cir. 1835 ship is wrecked in Taranaki Prov. Nth Island NZ. Jacky Jr. is adopted by Maori chief. First battle Australian/British Marines VS. Maori is to get Betty and Jacky Jr. back. Jacky Jr. "marries" a Maori woman Maria (Underwood)
Many many descendants today in northern part of South Island , Nelson, Cloudy Bay. Some are registered with the Ngai Tahu Family . Research continues, Michael Guard Sheehan-Hawaii
