I have found several records for one of my ancestors, Rebecca Grubb Thomas. She married my ggggrandfather Lorenzo Thomas in about 1838 in Michigan. They had several children, including my gggrandfather, Erastus, born in Dearborn, MI, in 1844. They all show up in the 1850 census in Dearborn, Wayne County, MI. She shows up as Rebecca Grubb on my gggrandfather Erastus's death certificate. She shows up on a few other records as Rebecca G Thomas. My confusion arises when I find her own death certificate, for 12-21-1899, in Dearborn, and I find it gives her parents as Samuel Dickenson and Margaret Passmore. When I search those names on various sites, including rootsweb and elsewhere, I find her listed as Rebecca Dickenson, child of Margaret Passmore and Samuel Dickenson, married to Lorenzo Thomas. Not enough dates for me to be 100% certain I'm looking at the right Rebecca, but I think I am. So where did the surname Grubb come from? I could understand it if her mom married more than once, perhaps, and indeed she did, but never to anyone named Grubb! Can anyone shed any light on the surname Grubb? Thx. ps. I've posted this in the Dickenson surname board too. Notify Administrator about this message?
