Parke H. Grubb, 87, a longtime resident of Alamogordo, died Thursday, June 9, 2005, at his home. Mr. Grubb was born March 12, 1918 in Liverpool, Pennsylvania. He attended Drexel Institute of Technology in Philadelphia where he received a bachelor of science in commerce, and also attended the IBM School. During World War II he was in the U.S. Army Air Corps and was stationed at Holloman Army Airfield in 1944, and had lived in Alamogordo since. In 1945 he met and married Carolyn D. Sutton, a native of Alamogordo. After the war he was employed in the engineering division at Holloman AFB in civil service from which he retired in 1984. He had been a member of the Evening Lions Club; the Rockhoud Club; and the Moonwatch Club where he was credited with the first sighting of the first U.S. satelite, Exlorer I, for which he was written about in the Smithsonian Magazine. His interests included photography; woodworking; and he even had his journeyman electricians license. Survivors include his wife of 60 years Carolyn of the family home; a son Charles Howard Grubb and his wife Christine of La Luz; three grandchildren, Charles Thomas Grubb and his wife Swaniee of La Mesa, New Mexico, Mark McCauley and his companion Melissa Pack of Enid, Oklahoma, and Megan Phillips and her husband Brad of Pueblo, Colorado; and three great grandchildren, Riley Thomas Grubb of La Mesa, and Justin and Thomas Peck of Enid, Oklahoma. He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard Emote and Effie (Mitchell) Grubb; a brother Marlin Grubb; and a sister Arna Kerstetter. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be announded later. Arrangments are under the direction of Hamilton-O'Dell Funeral Home.
