Hi Michael

I have just self published a book 'MacGrouthers in Scotland to 1855', the result of 15 years part time research - I wish I had found your posting earlier so that we could have corresponded.
I have found that there were two distinct sets of MacGrouthers - the McGruer/etc of the North, associated with the Clan Fraser, and the McGruder/McGruther/McGrewer/McGruar/etc of Perthshire, associated with the Clan Drummond. (How the Grewers/etc fitted into this structure I never determined.) It is this latter 'family' that my book is about, and I can confirm that they have no connection to the McGregors, which is entirely a myth - I expect it is the same for the McGruers of the North.
My book runs to 255 pages, 85,000 words and is fully referenced to the Scottish records, and is on sale for 20.
Regards
Don
