Rebecca,
I have my lineage pretty well locked up thanks to Darrell Groves and Mark Hale and his three books titled "Return to Greenland, Volumes I and II" and "Stingley Family, Traditions and Genealogy".To answer your question quickly, Darrell, Mark, and myself are blood. The catch is I've stayed silent until just recently because gathering information just takes a lot of time and effort and the Groves family is not the only family I've been working on.
I've just started gathering information on the part of the family (the Margaret Groves and John Hawk family) that moved on to Indiana and to Illinois and finally to Missouri in the early 1800's.
I have not done much with the West Virginia, Virginia, and Maryland end of my connections due to most of this work was completed, and I quickly realized that in Greenland Gap there were 12-16 families that are related in so many ways that you almost can not seperate them into individual units. Most of my effort was spent working on my family in central Ohio. And Darrell actually lives north of me between Cleveland and Toledo.
My connections to the Groves family is as follows from 1798 to today
Solomon Groves and Francis Marquis
Issac Marian Groves and Susan Stingley
Chenowith Groves and Eliza Jane Powell
Juetta Elmer Groves and Minnie Lee Deneca
Emory Russell Groves and Agnes Katherine Kilbourne
I will stop with my grandparents due to the reason that my father is still alive. My mother passed away a few years back.
What I can tell you is that I found a book in the London OH Library on early marriages in Winchester Frederick Co VA and I found that a good number of Groves marriages were performed by the same minister that also included Solomon Groves and Francis Marquis.I'm just suprised that no one has tried to make the connection there.Grant County was part of Hardy County which was part of Hampshire County which was part of Frederick County.Solomon and Frances married in Frederick County on 10 May 1798.I bet if someone researched the information, the Groves in Hardy County are related to the Groves in Hampshire County and a few other neigboring counties.
I hope this helps.
