Wilh GROSFER arrived at Port Adelaide in South Australia on the sailing ship “Sophie” in 1858. The records show that he was then 20 years old, born in Proschen (Prussia) and of Preusfen nationality.
In 1866 he married Doris ENGEL at Nuriootpa in South Australia. According to the record of his marriage his father was Johann Friedrich GROSSET and his given names were Johann Friedrich Wilhelm. A family Birthday Book has his name shown as FW Grosset, born on 3 May 1838, and family legends suggest that he came from Alsace Lorraine. William died on 27 July 1904 and was buried at Hamley Bridge.
William and Doris had seven chidren, Emilia Emma, Louisa Christina, Frederick Maximillian, Isabella, August William, Annie Martha and Elizabeth Matilda
I have a quite a lot of information about his family in Australia, but have been unable to find details of his birth, or to confirm the names of his parents or where he was born.
