James Francis Grosset was born in New Jersey. His grandfather, Alexander Shaw Grosset, was born in
Glencorse, Midlothian in 1839. Alexander was co-founder, in 1898, of Grosset & Dunlap - a large book publishing firm in New York. [Grossets are still active in the business which is now owned by Putnam, Inc.]
This branch of the Grosset family is undoubtedly related to yours. Margaret Grosset, who married William Dickson,was a second cousin, once removed of Alexander Shaw Grosset.
I managed to connect Alexander Shaw Grosset's family to the branch of Grossets that Lois Saleeba has on her website.
Couldn't verify that it appears on her site as it appears to be down at the moment.
How are you progressing with your research? Hope the effort I made to assist bore fruit.
