Hi Bart,
I hope that we can relate these two families because I have been researching for a long time also. The name Stockton or Stock rings a bell. My father Gibson Carlton Fenton b.1915 d.1984 said that his aunt had children that maried Stock or Stockton and moved to California. Here goes.
Henry Gross b.1792 d.1878 wife Sophia F.(unknown) b.1812
children- Augustus b.1832, Henry b.1834, Mary b.1835, Federick b.1841, Christopher b.1842, John C.b.1844, Corean b.1845 all of these children were born in Prussia. The next three children were born in Buffalo NY. Robert C.b.1849, Helena H. b.1850, William Frederick b.1851. Henry's wifes name was Johanna with 6 children in 1880 a son Henry b.1868.
