George Adam Gross, son of Adam Gross, was the step-son of William H. Cathcart who married the widow of Adam Gross. George was reared by W. H. Cathcart in Giles Co., Tennessee after his mother died, but he moved to Limestone Co., Alabama after his marriage and reared his family there--Maggie Gross (m. John Hall), Fannie Gross (m. Jack Griggs), William H. Gross (m. Ida Walker), Emma Gross (m. Ollie Garris), Luna Gross (m. Oscar Walker), Ila Gross (m. Ed McConnell), Alma Gross (m. J. D. Moore), Edgar David Gross (m. Pearl Marlurt). Edgar Gross died at Peart Harbor.
Adam Gross was born in Tennessee but his family moved to Monroe Co.,Mississippi. Adam enlisted in the Confederate Army in Iuka, Ms. in 1861 at age 20. He was wounded in the battle of Frnklin, Tennessee and died 6 December 1864.
I am the granddaughter of Lillie Cathcart Ellard who was a half sister of George Adam Gross. I would like to pass along information I have on the Gross family to descendants of George who will write me and tell me how they descend from him. I am past 80 now, so write soon.
