Gross/Grosse family-Germany/Pa/Oh/Ky/Ind
My great-grandfather, John J. Gross lived in Terre Haute, Ind. and added an E to the end of his name for mail purposes. He married Catherine (Katie) Bischoff/Bishop and they had 8 children,my grandmother, Anna,Gertrude,John J., Harry Francis,Francis Leo,
Peter C.,Joseph J. and George J.
His parents were John J. Gross and Maria Wild from Germany.Great-grandpa was born May 5, 1855 but I'm not sure where he was born. Each of his children's birth certificate lists his state of birth differently, showing Pa.,Ohio, and Ky.
I do know that his mom, Maria Wild Gross lived in Ashland,Ky. in 1910. I have a picture postcard of her from that date.
Only four of the children married and had children.Henry Francis Grosse married Sue
Ruckenhouser and had two children, one was Ruth Ann Levi.Joseph J. Grosse married Bertha Reeves-no idea if there were kids, and George J. Grosse married Edythe Sheldon-no info on kids either.
One of the married sons, died after diving into Lake Michigan at E. Chicago, Indiana and breaking his neck.
Francis Leo Grosse died before his first birthday and the youngest living son, Peter died after contracting rabies from a puppy who had bit him on his earlobe.
My grandmother, Anna Grosse, married Bernard Daley and had a son, John Bernard Daley. After Bernard died young, she again married, to Charles J. Krumeich and had three children, Charles J.Jr.,Hugh Donald, and Mary Gertrude.Mary Gertrude Krumeich was my mother.
Gertrude Grosse married Hugh Ruckenhouser (whose sister Sue had married Gertrude's brother Harry).Gretrude and Hugh did not have any children.
Any info regarding any descendants or ancestors-in particular the place of birth of great-grandfather John J. Gross and the city of origin in Germany for his parents along with immigration info would be appreciated.Unfortunately, John Gross is a common name and difficult to determine more without the details (state of birth, etc).I do believe he was born in the US and it was his parents who had emmigrated. However, they could have come over with their own parents.
