Wanda, thanks for pointing that out -- I'll save their names.I was surprised to see in another 1870 CA index that there was also another Groshong listed -- a Henry L.So, it sounds like a group of them did go together.I have been visiting the Mendocino Co. site on the GenWeb and discovered there was apparently a certain part of that county where mining was occuring.I have written to the county historical/genealogical soc. there just this week to see if someone there will check for an obit or funeral home record for Uriah.
Regarding the biblical names, Zimiri, Zimri & Uriah this is what if found:I Chronicles, Chapter 2, verse 6:"And the sons of Zerah; Zimri", etc.In this context, Zimri was a great-grandson of Judah, if I read it correctlyThe original reference I found on the net also said Zimiri was there, but I did not find it.I do believe that Zimri & Zimiri in the Bible are 2 different names.Uriah is also found in the Bible, but haven't found book or verse yet.Did find a site of English interpretations for some biblical names.Uriah means "The Lord is my Light (or Fire)."There was no interpretation listed for the other two names.I found these on the net by just typing in "biblical names."
Thanks for keeping me posted, especially with the updates on connected names.Joan
