Some years ago, I went into Washington DC (I live nearby) to the National Archives and looked up "Groshong" and anything spelled fairly similarly in some of the census indexes.I didn't do a thorough search by any means, but I did write down what I found.
There was a Uriah "Groshing" in the index for the 1850 Illinois records for Melrose Township in Grant County. When I went to the film of the record book it was spelled Groshong. It indicated that he was born in Missouri and was 32 at the time. The household also included a Mary age 25 (I presume his wife) and a Sarah age 1 born in Illinois.I did not write down anything for Mary's birthplace.
One of these days I'll have to take some time and go back and do some additional searching; at that time I did not know that any of the family came from Missouri, so I didn't even look at Missouri.
