ERVIN GROOMS MURDER IN SUMTER, SC
Posted by: Sheila Floyd-Evans (ID *****8089) Date: February 01, 2005 at 15:13:53

I am a newbie here and am hoping someone can give me some information on my great-grandfather, Ervin Grooms of Sumter, SC. He is listed as Erwin Grooms in the 1930 census, born about 1880. Married to Mertie (Myrtie?) Locklear, born about 1886. Two children, Manson (b. 1908, married Retus Hudson) and Alene (b. 1909, married John Player). (Manson was my maternal grandfather.) The only information I have about his murder is that he was killed by a son of the woman he was dating at the time (he was a widower at that point.) The boy was convicted, but released as an adult. Any info on Ervin's or Mertie's parents or siblings, or anything about the murder/murderer would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks!!!
