I am pretty well convinced that my ancestor, B. Grogan (who is referred to as "Baryallai" Grogan in the 1860 U.S. census in Calhoun Co., Alabama) is the brother of Patrick T. Grogan, b. 1836 in TN or VA.. My Grogan ancestor is referred to as B. Grogan in the 1870 U.S. Census for Prairie Bluff, Wilcox Co. Alabama. I think that he must have actually been the Baswell Grogan that you referred to. My ancestor, B. Grogan, married Elizabeth Smith in Calhoun Co., AL on 22 Mar 1857. They are listed in Ranges 5, 6, and 7 Calhoun Co., AL in the 1860 census. Patrick T. Grogan married Emma Harper on 24 Oct 1864 in Calhoun Co., AL. Emma harper was listed as living in Ranges 5, 6, and 7 Calhoun Co., AL. B. Grogan is listed in Prairie Bluff, Wilcox Co., AL in 1870 Patrick T. Grogan is living in Rehobeth, Wilcox Co., AL in 1870. So, they were both living in Wilcox Co., AL. in 1870 My ancestor, B. Grogan is living in Hill Co., Texas between the years of 1872 and 1876, for the birth of his children (he disappears before the 1880 census). Patrick T. Grogan is living in Hill Co., Texas in the 1880 census, but is mistranscribed as O.F. Grogan. His wife's name was Emma V. Grogan, and she is listed as E. V. Grogan, and his son, named John F. Grogan, b. 1873 in Texas, is listed as Johny Grogan. They are both listed with this "O. F." Grogan, who is probably actually recorded as P. T. Grogan, as he is in 3 other census years. So Patrick T. and my B. Grogan were living in Hill Co., Texas in 1873 Both Patrick T. and my B. Grogan list their place of birth as both Tennessee, and Virginia. B. Grogan lists his father as being of Foreign Birth in the 1870 census. Patrick Grogan lists his father's place of birth as Ireland. B. Grogan named his 2nd daughter, b. 1866, Emma, the same name as Patrick T. Grogan's wife. He also named one of his sons Robert, and another son James. So I think that Baswell Grogan was the actual name of my B. Grogan, and that James A., Patrick T., and Robert Grogan (who also lists his birthplace as Tennessee) are all brothers.
