I am looking for any Groen's from the Ost-Friesland Area.
My Great Grandfather Hermann Groen was born in Holthurerheide, Germany and his father's name was Engleka Groen, his wife Hilka Depping. Hermann married Behrendena Freeks from Diele, Germany, where they lived in Weener, Germany until they came to the USA around 1900 and lived in Sheffeild/Chapin area in Iowa. I know that he has siblings, but do not know the names.
There was a cousin of my grandfather's Fred Groen (married to Louise Lehmeier from Hubbard, Iowa), which came to the USA named Bernhard Groen that lived in Fowler, Indiana. And another cousin that lived in Frankfort, Germany that was a Doctor.
I know of a distant cousin of my father's Rena (Groen) Jerrentrup that just pasted away this past year. Her parents were Ludwig and Hanne Groen from Elizabethfehnl, Germany. Her grave is in Jerrenkreys (sp?), Germany.
I am going to Europe this next November and would like to try and locate some of my distant relatives.
I have pictures of relatives in Germany when my grandparents went there in the early 1960’s, there were slides so there are no names on them.
Any information would be appreciated!
