Rose,
I may be related to this family. I have a Lewis Dudley Groce born abt. 1827 married to Malinda Boyd. Her nickname could have been Lily. Their son, George Washington Groce, said to be born 2 Dec. 1859, married Nancy Ann Boyd, b. 1863, his second cousin. Nancy Ann was the sister of my great-grandmother, Louisa Elizabeth Boyd. I found a file on Rootsweb that says Nancy Ann died in Cedartown, Ga. in 1901. George apparently moved to Oklahoma as it says he died there in 1917. The file says that Nancy Ann and George had a son, Oliver Russell Groce, b. 6 Dec 1891, who was born in Cedartown and died in 1980 in Shawnee, Oklahoma.
The reason I believe this is my family is that my mother has a photo of Nancy Ann's grandparents, Robert Boyd and Sarah LeGuin, which was mailed to her aunt back in 1955 from Shawnee, Oklahoma. On the back is written "Grandfather and Grandmother Boyd and baby Lou," which would be my great-grandmother, Louisa. The sender was an Ida or Ila Harris.
These Boyds and Groces came from Carroll County, GA, and before that, Meriwether County, GA. The Boyds came from Newberry Co., SC to Georgia in the early 1800s and were in Carroll County by 1860. I would love to compare notes with you.
