I descend from John Grist's daughter Manda b. ca. 1865 (she is 5 on the 1870 census). Manda's tombstone at Rose Hill Cemetery in Rockmart gives her DOB as 11-12-1871, but I'm inclined to think she lied about her age (I know that my maternal grandmother's DOB is wrong on her tombstone because she was embarrassed for anyone to know that she was 2 years and 8 months older than my grandfather. She would admit to the 8 months but not the 2 years. As his last act of devotion to the only woman he ever loved, my grandfather had them put 1887 on the marker instead of 1885.) John Grist's daughter Manda/Amanda is the only Grist girl in GA anywhere close to the right name and age to be my great-grandmother Manda Tallulah Grist. John's wife Elizann was a Wofford from Spartanburg Co. SC.
