Excuse me much. I got my Grisham's mixed. It was Joseph Grisham, not John Grisham, who: 1) was a Baptist minister 2) father in law of Governor Joseph Emerson Brown (who married Elizabeth Gresham). 3) In 1834 penned a testimonial for Joseph Pinson RWS stating he'd known him for "upward of 30 years". 4) owned a tavern in Pendleton Village per the 1826 Plat map. However, a John Grisham and a Martha Grisham witnessed Joseph Pinson RWS' purchase of land on One Mile Creek in Pendleton District in 1805. A John Grisham was listed 6 families from Joseph Pinson RWS on the 1800 Spartanburg Dist S.C. census (Pinson moved to Pendleton in 1804, and a John Grisham was located near the Pinsons in a later Pendleton Census. If I'm not confused now, Joseph Grisham (Col, Minister and Tavern owner) was the son of John Grisham and Barbara Burdyne? I also have heard that John and Barbara's daughter, Francis, married a Miles Moore Norton, who would undoubtedly be part of the Pendleton Nortons who descended from a Quaker Norton/Brown union that had moved into Fairfax VA from Chester Pa circa 1730's or 40's.
