Hi James,
I'm not related to the Grinders, but am related to a family into which one of them married (confusing, eh?).
I've come across some NC Grinders, Joshua Jr and his mother and siblings, who settled in NE Ark (Cash, close to Jonesboro, Craighead Co)and the neighborhood became known as Grinder's Settlement. The info comes from "The History of Craighead County (Ark)" by Harry Lee Williams, 1930-ish.
The Grinders (and the Simmons) came to (Maury and Lawrence Co) TN from Stokes Co NC.
I don't have the complete info here at home, but 2 of the Grinder sisters were Mahulda, who married John Simmons, and Barbary, who married Thomas Simmons, both marriages in Ark.
Do you have info on this Grinder/Simmons group? My issue is a possible Simmons connection, so I'm primarily looking for geographical/migratory info this clue offers (my connection is an Edwards who married a Simmons in the same area).
Please e-mail if convenient.
Charles Kirksey
