Hello Vincent,
So nice to see the number of Grimstone researchers increasing!

William Hunter Kendal GRIMSTONE (of theatrical fame - doesn't mean much to me either, unfortunately!) was born about 1843 according to the LDS 1881 Census discs.

There is an entry in the GRO Birth index which I think relates to him: GRIMSTONE William, 1844 Mar qtr, Kensington, Vol 3, page 299.

I do not yet know who his father was.
For the 1881 Census, William and his family were living at 145 Harley Street, St Marylebone, London, Middlesex, England. FHL Film 1341031 RG11 Piece 139 Folio 86, Page 30

GRIMSTON Margaret, Wife, Actress, 1849, M, 32, F, born Grimsby, Lincolnshire
GRIMSTON Margaret C, Daughter, 1872, U, 9, F, born London, Middlesex
GRIMSTON Ethel M, Daughter, 1875, U, 6, F, born London, Middlesex
GRIMSTON Harold, Son, 1877, U, 4, M, born London, Middlesex
GRIMSTON Dorothy, Daughter, U, 10months, F, born London, Middlesex

There was also another son,
GRIMSTON Hugh Dorrington, boarder, scholar, 1873, U, 8, M, 10 Holland Park Terrace, Kensington, London, Middlesex, born London, Middlesex

GRIMSTON Hugh Dovington, 1872 Dec qtr, St George Hanover Square, Vol 1a, Page 392
GRIMSTON Ethel Muriel, 1874 Dec qtr, Pancras, Vol 1b, Page 45
GRIMSTON Harold Robertson, 1876 Sep qtr, Pancras, Vol 1b, Page 35
GRIMSTON Dorothy May, 1880 Sep qtr, Marylebone, Vol 1a, Page 539

Margaret and Ethel may have carried on the acting tradition, as there are a few entries on the Ellis Island site, of them going to America. Don't suppose they were going shopping!

'Fraid that's all I have for you just now…..though I'll keep my eyes open for anything that fits in with the information you have given me. Incidentally, the only mention I've found regarding surgeons was on a website regarding naval surgeons in service in 1805. It mentions only the one….
GRIMSTONE E.

Good luck with your researches.
If I can be of further assistance, just let me know.
All the best,
Louise

PS If you are able to tell me the date/place of Charles Isaac Le Plastrier's marriage to Harriet Grimstone, I'd be grateful.
