Surnames

I have heard many stories as to where the surname Grimsley originated from. Most stories I have heard is that Grimsley originated from a scotish/irish location. Although, I have heard some say that it could have possible English or even German origin. Can anyone bring any validation to any of these possibilities? For all practicality I see much evidence to a more Irish origin but I would like validation to my theories. To anyone who may be able to help, thank you.
