I ran across this deed of John Grimsley and George Proffitt and Nancy his wife, selling a 1/5 interest in two tracts of land than Loften Grimsley formerly owned and died on to David Gibson. This deed is recorded in Washington Co., TN., Deed Book 20, Pages 322-324, dated January 20, 1834. This indenture made the twenteth day of January in the year one thousand eight hundred and thirty four between John Grimsley of the county of Roan and George Proffitt and Nancy Proffitt his wife of the county of Sullivan state of Tennessee of the one part and David Gibson of the county of Washington state of Tennessee for and in consideration of sixty dollars to them in hand paid have granted bargined and sold unto said David Gibson a certain share or shares tract or parcel of land to the some one fifth part of a tract of land that Loften Grimsley formerly owned and died on situated in the county of Washington state of Tennessee. The first grant of 17 and 1/2 acres beginning . . . and the second grant containing one hundred acres of land . . . . assigning 1/5 part of the before described parcels of land twenty three and 1/2 acres together with all improvements woods waters mines.
