Alice Grimshaw

Alice Grimshaw married John Broadley 26 dec 1690 and their older children were baptised at Altham in Clayton le Moors, before the Dunkenhalgh estate allowed them to begin renting a messuage in 1701 in Church and their other children were baptised there. The children were all baptised anglican except for Abraham the eldest, who went to work as carter for the Dunkenhalgh estate. There are loads of refs in the accounts of Dunkenhalgh and his sons appear on the returns of papists 1767. Why would one son be catholic and not the rest? I think maybe Alice was catholic. The only Alice of the right age I can find is Alice dau Henry 1665, but Alice's second son was Thomas, no Henrys. One of her daughters was Isabel and that's a grimshaw name. Any help appreciated, marie
