Hi Shirley,
I'm so glad that you've posted this information. I've been doing research on our family now for about a year. I do have some solid proof that, at least, the Grimmett's came from Maryland.
There is an early listing of a Robert and Elizabeth Grimmet giving birth to a Margaret in 1720. The record is from Saint Barnabas Church, Queen Anne Parish, Prince Georges, Maryland. You can find this record both on familysearch.org and Ancestry. Also I have found a land patent for "Grimmett's Chance" dated 1728. This patent has a Robert Grimmett listed as the owner, and may be the same Robert Grimmett mentioned above. The county listed says "Now Howard", and I believe it was Anne Arundel beforehand.
I have found two immigration records for John Grummit(Grimmit)to Jamaica enroute to what I believe is Baltimore in 1725 and 1730. I'm not sure if these are two different people or if one record is a few years off. I found these records on Ancestry.com as well. I also found some letters on Library of Virginia's website which list a John Grimmett in 1774 sending tobacco to England. The location listed says "N.P." and I'm not sure if that stands for Not Provided or something else.
Some other solid proof that leads me to believe the Grimmett's once lived in Maryland before Virginia is a couple death records in Kentucky, one for John's son William, and the other for his son Solomon. Pulaski County has William listed as being born in Maryland. Barren County lists Solomon being born in Maryland as well.
I wish I had more information to give. I've done most of my research on Grimmett's, and I don't know alot about Marylands history and migration patterns during this time period. I hope the info was at least helpful. Could you direct me to the Deed Books you mentioned in your post? Is there a place on the internet to get this information?
