Lisa, could your Thomas J. Brooks have had a brother, William J. Brooks, who was born in Georgia in 1832?The reason I ask is that my great grandfather William J. who married Mary Jane Swanson in Troup Co. in 1854 named a son Thomas Jefferson. He was my grandfather born in 1860.I have struggled to find my great grandfather because my mother, the youngest child, did not even know her father's parents.I have recently learned that an older sibling did know his name.I had already found William and Mary on an 1870 Harris Co. census.I did not find them in 1860, nor separately in 1850.
To compare notes, William had two older daughters, Nancy P. and Martha Ann.The next son was William about whom I know nothing. Then came Thomas J. and Joseph H.By 1880 only Thomas and Joseph were with their parents.
Nancy P. may be a Swanson name.
Thank you for any clues you can provide.
Ann
