NOTES:
The above database allegedly includes ALL Virginia patents and grants.
If you access the above database, note that for any given name the
newest grants are listed first. You can set a desired range of
years, though I don’t remember how I did that, but still the earliest
years are listed last.
TIME PERIOD CHECKED:EARLIEST TO 1750
SPELLINGS CHECKED:
Graham
Grayham
Grimes
Grymes
Note About Dates:
This is a chronological list.
Dates between 1 January and 24 March inclusive in any given year might
have been compiled in this database by the old calendar or the new
calendar.
I have listed them in order as if they were the new calendar, but care
should be taken.Only one record below uses the slash / to show the
date.
There are three groups below, all organizing the same records in
differrent ways:
---By date
---By given name
---By location (county)
For those records in the first two groups for which no county was given
in the original record, each of those has been assigned to a presumed
county in the third part below. Some of those assignments were made
arbitrarily according to adjudged probability, others with more
evidence.
It is my own personal opinion that Edward Graham---who died in about
1750 Fairfax Co, leaving a widow Patience and about a dozen surviving
children---was quite likely a son of the Edward Grimes aka Graham
seen in many records below, from 1635 through 1656 in these records,
or of Charles who is seen in these records from 1653 through 1666.
Neither of those men is known with absolute certainly to have lived
long enough to have been the father of the above-mentioned Edward, who
was born in about 1679, but that could be simply because neither of
them, or their close neighbors, was granted land after the 1650s or
1660s.
AMENDED NOTE:
Charles Grymes of Rappahannock Co did die by 1670, and probably by
1661, so he could not be Edward’s father, although his only known son
John presumably might have been, technically, though his 1660 birth
seems a bit late to be the father of Edward born in about 1679.
Moreover, both of those names---Edward and Charles---are names
which the above-mentioned Edward who died in about 1750 gave to his
sons.
On the other hand, several researchers think that a certain Thomas was
Edward’s father because he is found in records close enough to Edward’s
birth to make him a feasible father of Edward, even though Thomas was
not a name of one of Edward’s eight sons, if that means anything.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
It should be remembered that this database of Virginia grants indexes
the names of grantees and adjoining landowners, but evidently does NOT
index the names of transportees.

MY NOTE:
Rev. Charles Grymes evidently died in 1661.The records below
showing him owning adjoining land are either for a different Charles,
OR, more likely I think, because the non-computerized records of the VA
patent granting bureaucracy did not keep up with land sales, deaths,
etc.
