Thanks for the info, Here is what was given to me .
HISTORY OF The GRIMES FAMILY AS RECORDED IN REGISTER OF DEEDS OFFICE
In 1795 as recorded in the Johnston County register of deeds office a man by the name of William Grimes acquired a vast number of acres of land and was known to be a large land owner of that time. He had two sons recorded as follows William Grimes thatsettled and acquired land in 1850 and Benjamin Franklin Grimes that settled and acquired
land in 1865. This same Benjamin Franklin Grimes was married twice and the first marriage was recorded to Mary Cutts, to this union there were 6 children born as,follows
James Haywood Grimes , William Henry Grimes(Ca 1853), L. David Grimes, Celia Grimes, De1ia Grimes and Floyd Grimes(ca1861). The second marriage after the death of the first
wife was to Millie Ennis and 8 children was born to this union as follows: Ludella Grimes (Ca 1868), Alonzo Grimes Ca 1870, Willie F. Grimes(ca 1861), Ida Grimes (Ca 1872), Nellie Grimes (ca 1874), Artemas T. Grimes (Ca 1878), Carrie Grimes, and Ben Agie Grimes.
All of the above children were married and settled in Johnston, Harnett and Wake Co. and lived most of their lives except the second oldest of the last set, Alonzo Grimestravelled and settled in California and was married twice and has 3 daughters, Millie Wilmoth Grimes Connors of Culver City, California, Ludella Grimes McNeil of San Hosea,
California and Sibyl Grimes Fisher of Moraga, California. Ben Agie Grimes the youngest of the last set of children was never married neither was Ida Grimes, she died in her
early twenties and Ben Agie died in Florida in his early twenties. These along with their father and mother and the first wife were all buried across the road from the old Grimes plantation owned now by Mrs. Viola King Beasley, that still ajoins the land, of Alma Grimes, Mary Stephenson and Mrs. Herbert Grimes, this land being a part of the
old Grimes plantation.
The above was given to me in Oct. 2006, from Jimmy Grimes of Harnett Co., NC.
I have added the dates from the census I found.
Wonder if the 2 sons mention above were gsons of the Wm that died Mar. 1827 ? In the
pension papers it mentions that all the children had died but the dau. Leacey Adams.
If you could find more on that family it would be great :-)
