Thank you Marjorie, I too have those dates from Scioto.org
there is another Scioto website that gives the census for 1850 and lists M Rankins, a female, living with a C Grimes who is old, like 80 or something. M Rankins age is wrong but I am sure it is her because the children's initials are the same as some of the ones we have...

I think if you have access to a census data base that census page is actually listed under the township name instead of the county. Its hard to look up, but its there.
I feel like I ran into a brick wall on my family a long time ago.
I haven't positively identified my GGG grandfather Martin Van Buren Rankin, as the Martin son of Margaret Rankins, but they are the same age and were both born in Ohio.
If he is Margaret Rankins son, then his father was a Peter Rankin who was born in Virginia. (Margaret was born in PA)
This is all I know
