CYNTHIA J GRIMES - dau of JAMES B & REBECCA (BERRY?) GRIMES???
This is the story handed down:JONATHAN DALTON was a pioneer from TN to Cape Girardeau Co, MO. Here, at age of 20, he brought his bride, CYNTHIA J GRIMES, age 16. There is a rumor that he was a farm hand working for the GRIMES family where he fell in love with their 16 year old daughter, married her on September 17, 1846, against her family's wishes, and came immediately to Missouri, settling on a quarter section of State land at a cost of twenty five cents per acre. There seems some basis of fact for this rumor for neither of them ever returned to Tennessee for a visit.Problem:Been trying to find out who Cynthia's parents were.Just found a Cynthia J Grimes as being the daughter of JAMES B & REBECCA (BERRY?) GRIMES.My Cynthia is shown to have been born ca: 1830 so she appears to be the right age to be their child.Soon after coming to Missouri, Jonathan arranged for his entire family to move there. The family consisted of his widowed mother (Elizabeth), five married daughters, one unmarried daughter and three unmarried sons.My Cynthia supposedly died 15 Aug 1857 and Jonathan married (3) more times:Lorena Harp,Margurette Walker and finally to Lucinda Kasinger.Has anyone ever heard this story and can they tie my Cynthia (Grimes) Dalton as being the daughter of James B & Rebecca Grimes?HELP!And thanks~
