Peter,
Unless you have that precious piece of information that proves Elizabeth was a Byers, you need to re-think it. I believe some years ago someone thought it a possibility because Jacob and Eliz. are buried in the Alexander Watson Byers cemetery in White Co., TN (or Putnam County, can't remember). Alex'r was their son-in-law. If you have proof, please share it. Her maiden name has been a puzzle for me and a few others whom have tried to solve this for a long time. There is a possibility that she was Elizabeth Tatum, daughter of James P. Tatum and Amy Sharp. James left a will in Ashe Co., NC where Jacob is from in 1822 naming daughter Elizabeth Grime. All group sheets and information I've found so far on this family have the first name of Eliz.'s husband as unknown. Jacob and Eliz's son John Grimes named their daughter (my ancestor) Elizabeth T. Grimes. Nobody knows what the T. stands for. Possibly Tatum.....still searching.
