Hi Art, My line of Grimes came from Duplin Co., NC to Stewart Co., Ga, than to Dale Co., Al.
A group of us are working on the Grimes from Duplin Co NC, if you would like to see some of the info on line try the Duplin Co.,NC Archives, i do not know if i have the info about Joseph Grimes m Ellden son of Hugh Grimes Joseph d ca 1783 and the probate was still going on in 1790, so you may see where he died 1790 but i really think the 1783 and 1790 date is for the same Joseph Grimes, Joseph had sons, Charles,bca1766,John b ca 1768, Joseph b ca 1770 (we do know he stayed in Duplin Co.NC) James b ca 1772, Thomas b ca 1774, and unborn child 1783, dates could be off for the Boys that is guessing.
There are papers stating that Charles sold his share of land after 1790's and went to SC, we have not found the other boys either and thinking they could have went to SC, Ga, Va,Tn, MS, are just about anywhere :-)
I have seen where a Nathan m a Esther in SC. and seen a Nathan sold land in Stewart Co., Ga 1832, and than in the 1850 census, where ther was a Esther age 7?, b SC in HH with her son John Grimes.
Would you please let me know what you have on the SC. Grimes please.
Thank you and Good luck
