Good afternoon Dotty, Bill Reid here from Westarn Australia. I too am researching my Grills' family history. Recently I have discovered the following. 1. That all Grills from Ireland may be traced back to one man, a Thomas or Alexander Grills. A cornishman who settled around the Carlingford Lough area in the year 1690. 2. That the name Grills & Grylls are from the same Cornish Clan. 3. That Richard Grylls has written & published a history of the Grylls / Grills history in two volumes ; & that the book may be accessed on-line. It gives quite a good account of the Irish Grills, including marriages & other genealogy from 1690 on, about the Irish Grills' families. Tom Grills, of Dundalk gets a mention, as having been a good resource for Richard. 4. I am seking information ablut Frances Grills ( a seamstress ) who married James Reid ( a hand loom weaver ) around 1829, in Ireland. Frances' parents were Charles Grills ( a captain of a sailing vessel ) & Frances Mountford. Any information would be well received. I have reason to believe that Frances Grills & James were married in St Anns' Church of Ireland ( now St Anns' Cathedral in Belfast ) in 1829. They moved to Glasgow in Scotland & had 3 children, Samuel & John Reid ( twins ) born in 1834 ; & Frances Reid born in 1843. Frances Grills was born in 1793 in Ireland. Husband James Reid was born in Ireland in 1810, & was 17 years younger than his wife. Frances died in Glasgow in October 1861 aged 68 years. James Reid died in Glasgow in 1874 aged 64 years. I hope that this information is of use to you. Best wishes. Bill Reid. Notify Administrator about this message?
