Bill I agree that the two families in Muskett are quite separate. While there is, of course, considerable variation in how a particular family spells its name there tends to be regional consistency over a longer period of time. GRIGG appears the predominant form in the south west of England round Cornwall and Devon while GRIGGS appears to be the common form in East Anglia, Suffolk and Norfolk. While Muskett suggests the GRIGG family was from Bedford I have proved conclusively they were born and raised in Exeter, Devon. They may have had family connections in Bedford, perhaps an off shoot from the main Devon family. It is worth noting that the manor which Michael Grigg, died 1623, bought in Suffolk, Snape, which established him in the manorial families of that county was purchased in 1611 from another family of GRIGG, Edward GRIGG notary public of Norwich, whose origins were also from Devon. Surely a connected GRIGG family but I have not been able to prove it. I was in Lubbock in the 1980s examining cattle feedlots - interesting. Regards Terry Notify Administrator about this message?
