The Samuel Griffins in the 1820, 1830, and 1840 census records MIGHT be a match, but not the one from 1850. And John Griffin could have been Samuel and Mary's son, but probably not George and definitely not James, who was 60 years old in 1850, according to the census. The 1870 census shows a Mary Griffin, age 78, living in District 11 of Kent County, Delaware. And while the age doesn't match up (the Mary Griffin from my family should have been 68 in 1870), it does show her as living with Charles Sta(y)ton, who was, according to the records I have on the Chipman family, a nephew of Mary's. So that's most likely her, but Samuel is not with her, so he is probably deceased by 1870. I would like to see if there are death records and/or burial info in Kent County for Samuel and Mary (Chipman) Griffin that might help clear things up more.
