Martha, My brick wall on the Griffin side is a Leonard Griffin b 1802 SC but I have done some work on the Leonard Griffin from Cherokee Co. and I still think there might be some connection between the families. I looked through my data on the Griffins and I found the following 1850 1860 Woodstock, Cherokee Co., GA Leonard, Emily, John M. b. 1853, Andrew S. b 1856, William P. b 1858. Leonard's mother Martha Griffin 1794 VA lives with them. (Martha also has a will online that names her children including Leonard) 1870 can't find the family! 1880 Double Branch, Milton co., GA widowed Jane with Leonard P. b 1861, Mary E. b 1864, James S. b. 1865, Martha L. b 1869, Virgil O., b. 1871. (Jane's mother Emily "Epison" b 1792 GA is living with them and son William lives a few houses away) 1900 Double Branch, Milton Co., GA widowed Emily Griffin b. March 1833, and three sons James S. b July 1865, George b. April 1867 and Virgil b. Nov 1874. This census also indicates that she had born 11 children and as of 1900 only 8 were still living. I have listed 9 differenct children of the 11. I don't know how this jives with a death date of 1862 for leonard but Emily could have married another Griffin - poss a brother of a cousin and had the post 1862 children with him. Do you know who was the father of Leonard Griffin (b. 1832 GA.?) My Leonard was born in SC but he may have been related to a John Griffin of Virginia (either a father or an uncle). There is some evidence that my Leonard was a fortunate drawer in the Georgia Cherokee Land Lottery in 1832 and may have lived in that area of Georgia before he moved west to Mississippi. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks John Griffin Phillips Notify Administrator about this message?
