Hello Horace---

Just noticed in your post that you have a book about the history of the Griffen family and was wondering if you can help us.

We think that my wife's great-great-grandmother was named Mary Ann Griffen and that she was born in Carlton, Ohio around 1820 or so. She married John Shafe around 1835-1840 and had five children, the oldest of whom was Myron Shafe (my wife's great-grandfather) who was born in St. Thomas, Ontario, Canada in 1842. The 1860 census shows the family living in Missouri; we lose her after that.

The problem is that all we have as supporting evidence for Mary Ann's name and birth information is what appears on Myron's death certificate, and we have no way of knowing whether it's correct. Any supporting information you could provide would be most hel[ful. Thanks very much.

Mark
