Need info on Hoyt Griffen of the Chowan, Bertie, Martin, Washington County area of NC. Hoyt Griffen married Cottie LEARY in Jamesville, Martin County NC. and moved to Plymouth NC. around 1900. Apparently around 1905 or 1906,Hoyt Griffen ran off with another woman and lived in the Elizabeth City NC. area or Suffolk Va. area and had other children. Cottie LEARY Griffen then moved from Plymouth NC. to Edenton NC. with three children and her three year old neice, Emma Gertrude Griffen (My grandmother) She later married George Lassiter and they operated a fish market on Okum St, in Edenton many years. One daughter was named Eunice Griffen and married a HUDSON and moved to California and has known descendants. If any of this ring a bell or you have info. please contact me at. drogerson@triad.rr.com
