Grier - Maitland - in Pennsylvania late 1700s

I am a descendant from a James Grier Maitland. It looks like he also had a nephew Joseph Greer - they lived in Buck Co. then Caln, Chester Co., PA. There is some tradition in the family with using the mother's maiden name as children's middle. -Other possibilities were some closeby Reverends in Brandywine Manor named Grier as well as an Pennsylvania officer James Grier in the American Revoultion.

Has anyone researching Griers run across the name Maitland? Any help would be appreciated. More details can be seen at: https://www.greenwell.de/tng_family/index.php and search for grier.

happy hunting
Tim
