Robert Grier, Mecklenburg/Anson Co, NC before 1779

I am looking for more information on the land transaction between Robert Grier and my ancestor Hugh Kimmons that took place in Mecklenburg County before Feb 1779 as follows:

Abstracts of Land Entries: Mecklenburg County, NC 1778-1795, by A. B.
Pruitt:
Feb 26, 1779 Hugh Kimmons enters 130 acres; border George Davis,James Finney, and place he bought of Robert Grier; 20 ac added; warrant issued.

I am trying to find out when Hugh arrived in this area and so far, the 1779 date is the earliest record we have found. However, this entry indicates that he bought the land of Robert Grier before that date. Does anyone know when the transaction between Robert Grier and Hugh Kimmons took place? Or when Robert Grier obtained the land in the first place? Mecklenburg was formed from Anson County in 1762, so it is possible that a grant or deed would have been listed in Anson for Robert.

Also, since settlers from similar areas tended to live near each other, does anyone know where this Robert Greer/Grier originated? I am hoping it will give a clue as to where to look for Hugh's ancestors.

Thanks,
Karen Dutton
