Very interesting--That may explain the Griego’s fondness for a certain Highland beverage and golf. Another story regarding the origin of Griego as a surname that originates from the village of San Jose is as follows: Many years ago an old Greek sailor came to the village. He had a very difficult name to pronounce so the villagers just referred to him as “El Griego” .
