James Grierson (of Dalgonar, Parish of Dunscore, Dumfries-shire, Scotland)
Born: November 1st, 1755; died March 17th, 1848, Newcastle-on-Tyne, County Northumberland; buried there, (Monument Inscription) Will dated July 4th, 1834. An addendum was written in Volume 2, page 8 - James Grierson of Dalgonar, County Dumfries, died 26th February [not 17th March] 1848.

Father: James Grierson, of Dalgonar, born c1699; died June 9th, 1768.
Mother: JANET AGNES BRODIE, b. c1719; died January, 1774, aged 55 years - she would be 36 years old when James above was born.

Tombstone inscription at Dunscore Parish Church Cemetery, Dumfries-shire, Scotland reads: "Here lyes the Body of James Grierson Esq. of Dalgoner who Departed this life June 9th, 1768 in the 69th year of his age. Also Here lyeth Agnes Brodie Relict of the said James Grierson who died 3rd [?] [5th] January 1774 aged 55 years."]

THESE ARE THE GRIERSONS OF BALDONELL, COUNTY DUBLIN, IRELAND & DALGONAR, DUMFRIES-SHIRE, SCOTLAND

He (James Grierson of Dalgonar) married Helen (Morison), daughter of the (Reverend) Philip Morison, Minister of Dunscore, County Dumfries, and subsequently of Balmaghie, county Kirkcudbright; born at Charleston, South Carolina, U.S.A., and buried at Dunscore.

James Grierson & Helen Morison had issue five, viz.:

(1) Helen Grierson, b. October 20th, 1784; married April 29th, 1806 to the (Reverend) JAMES KEYDEN of Keir. Helen died May 17th, 1845 & was buried at Sighthill Cemetery in Glasgow, Scotland on May 20th, 1845.

(2) James Grierson of Dalgonar, born June 20th, 1786; died March 14th, 1834, buried in St. Catherine's Church Cemetery, Dublin, Ireland (M.I.)

James Grierson & Helen Morison had issue five, viz.: (continued)

(3) PHILIP GRIERSON (Jeweler) Of Glasgow, [Lanark County] Scotland was born on the 19th of April, 1789. He married MARGARET SMITH, b. c1801, Corbals, Lanark County, Scotland; she was the 2nd daughter of William Smith of Glasgow, who died 15th December, 1881 and was buried on 19th of December, 1881 at the Dean Cemetery at Edinburgh, Scotland. PHILIP GRIERSON died on the 12th day of June, 1827 and was buried at Sighthill Cemetery in Glasgow, Scotland. Philip Grierson married to MARGARET SMITH on December 16th, 1822, Lanark, Glasgow, Scotland. [Paul again writes, "born 19th August, 1789 (N.B. -in another note I have 19th April, but on the stone in the family grave at Dunscore it says August); died 12th June, 1827, (Jeweler in Glasgow) married Margaret Smith."]

Philip Grierson & Margaret Smith had issue three, viz.:

(A) James Grierson, b. March 27th, 1824, Glasgow, Lanark County, Scotland,
(B) Helen Grierson, b. July 21st, 1825, Barony, Lanark County, Scotland, &
(C) Margaret Grierson, b. October 25th, 1826, Glasgow, Lanark County, Scotland.
James Grierson & Helen Morison had issue five, viz.: (continued)

(4) Janet Agnes Elizabeth Grierson was born on the 3rd day of March, 1781; she died on the 30th day of October, 1817, and she was buried at Ardrossan, County AYR. (M.I.).

(5) John Grierson was born on the 16th day of August, 1793; [Assistant] Surgeon in the Royal Navy; died at BERMUDA on the 8th day of March, 1815, and was buried there.
