A portal to Canadian census links:
http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/genealogy/022-911-e.html

Searching the 1871 "heads and strays" index at:
http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/archivianet/1871-ontario/001016-100.01-e.php
shows William Greig a=40, farmer, pob=SCT, living in the Pickering area in 1871. The "online help" link gives the film #s, which I haven't checked out.

The LDS transcription of the 1881 census shows widow Elizabeth a=46, merchant, with 7 kids, all with pob=ONT, living @ Almonte, Lanark N, ONT (about 50km WSW of Ottawa). Kids: Bella 20, Lizzie 19, Annie 17, Marion 14, Archie 12, Nellie 10, James 7. I haven't checked out the film, and the ages given/transcribed aren't particularly consistent over time. I'm convinced Eliz's b'day is 13 Jan, but not at all sure of year - my guess is 1839 - the one given by another.

http://automatedgenealogy.com/census/index.jsp gives access to partial 1901/1911 census transcriptions (+ 1851 ON/NB, + 1906 AB/SK/MB), and thence links to images. (It might be necessary to download a (free) MrSid plug in for some images - I've got the plug-in, so can't tell what's necessary).

In 1901, we find Elizabeth C Greig a=59, (dob=13/1/1842), occup=bookstore; kids: Isabella (Jan 1868), Nellie (Jan 1875), James (Aug 1876 - Law student). District: ON LANARK (North/Nord) (#80) Subdistrict: Almonte (Town/Ville) A-5 Page 7 Sched 1 (Line 11).

In 1911, we find Eliz living with her widowed daur Elizabeth Macfarlane + kids on Ritchie in Almonte. "Lizzie" b Aug 1864, so if Annie is 2 y younger, then she would be b 1866 - much closer to the original post than 1881 implied. The key image locator info is 1911 / Ontario / Lanark North / 19 Almonte / page 13 - you can view the image pdf via automatedgenealogy site and via the link below. Actually, if we find a record in 1911, there's a quick search link "1901" that looks for the corresponding record in 1901. Here they work well for the Greigs, but not the Macfarlanes.

The federal site only provides geographical indices to the actual images when they're online. Go to:
http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/archivianet/1911/index-e.html
enter Almonte, ONT, click and select sub-district 19, then select page 13 giving:
http://data2.collectionscanada.ca/1911a/e080/e001998578.pdf
i.e., the 1911 image. Although I really just went thru this bit here to get hold of a viewable URL, this is how one can view adjacent census pages. Incidentally, for some years (1901 at least), there's a seperate schedule available for the household, which describes the farm and its buildings.
This extra schedule is only available thru this route, and is enumerated by dwelling page # + line #.

1901 Sched 2 shows them living @ C16 Bridge St in an 8 room house. They own 2 town lots and no buildings, they rent 1 city lot (C16 ?), 1 dwelling, 1 store/warehouse and 1 outbuilding, etc. Theirs was one of 21 households enumerated 15/4/1901.

There are also volunteered transcriptions ongoing thru the OntarioGenWeb project:
http://ontariocensus.rootsweb.com/search-name.html
However, this produced no hits here in my searches.
