I'm a descendant of Shelby Gregory b: 1846-47 in Wayne co Ky. Shelby was the son of Hayden Gregory,b: 1807 and Mary 'Polly' Martin, b: in Tenn abt.1809( Parents unknown). Hayden was the son of Mordecai Gregory and Jane Burk. Mordecai was the son of Edward Gregory. I've recently received info that Shelby applied for cherokee membership and was rejected. There are rumors that his mother Mary Martin was of cherokee ancestry but I have no proof. Hayden Gregory and his family left Ky for Ark sometime after 1880 so I don't know where Shelby applied for membership with the cherokees.If anyone knows of this will they please let me know?
