Circa 1887 photo of Thaddeus Gregg (1869-1892)
I recently purchased the subject studio portrait of a young man taken by Beebe, Denver, CO.It is identified on the back of the mount in period handwriting:
"Thad Gregg"
I found this individual listed in the 1880 Census data for Castle Rock, Douglas Co., CO.He is included in at least one public member tree posted on ancestry.com.I also found him listed in Denver city directories for the years 1886, 1887, 1890, and 1891.In 1886 and 1877, he was employed as a photographer's assistant/printer at J. E. Beebe and resided at 478 California Street with his mother, Mrs. Mary E. Gregg. In 1890 and 1891 he was employed as a photographer and resided at 1838 California Street, and 2528 Stout Street, respectively. He is listed in "Biographies of Western Photographers: A Reference Guide to Photographers Working in the 19th Century American West," by Carl Mautz (Carl Mautz Publishing, 1997).
Thaddeus Gregg, born 1869 in OH, died 1892, was the son of Ezra Benjamin Gregg, born 25 May 1844 in Sandusky, OH (his parents were Philander Gregg, born 29 Jan 1819 in OH; and Mary E. Wells, born about 1822 in OH); and Mary E. (maiden name unknown), born about 1850 in OH.Siblings of Thaddeus were Eddie Gregg, born about 1872 in OH; and Mark Gregg, born Apr 1880 in OH.
