Searching for this family: Henry Edwin Greenwood, Wife Mary, step-daughters Harriett Crowther and Emma Crowther, son David Smith Greenwood and daughter, Mary Greenwood listed in 1881 England census at 14 Cambridge Terrace, Halifax, Yorkshire, England. In 1891 and 1901 Halifax, Yorks, Eng censuses, an adopted son, Percival Robert Walshaw, b 1884, is also shown with the Greenwood family. Does anyone know about this family and whether they might be blood-related to Percival Robert Walshaw? PR Walshaw was sent to this family after his mother (Ann Lambert Walshaw b 1844 Thornhill, Yorkshire, d 1886 Thornhill, Yorkshire) died. His father (Robert Walshaw)and a number of older siblings (Elizabeth Ann, Maboth, Alice, Charles Henry, Lambert, Priscilla, Albert and Mary Walshaw) continued to live together in Thornhill, Yorkshire, after this event occurred but Percival resided in the Greenwood household until he was an adult and subsequently emigrated to the United States. He continued to list H E Greenwood, 16 Heathview, Halifax, Yorkshire, England as his "adopted father" on ship's manifests and on his Application for Naturalization in the U.S. in 1920. I can find no evidence of a legal adoption of Percival by the Greenwoods. I seek information as to whether they were somehow related to the Walshaw family and took him in after his mother died when he was a very small child, or other clues as to how he came to be "adopted" by them. Any leads or suggestions would be most appreciated Notify Administrator about this message?
