My line also goes from James Washington and Julia Vance Andrews to their son William Joseph then his son William Gernie, my dad. You seem to be one step ahead of me as far as the Billings story goes. I just had the last name, no story to go with it. All the older ones I talk to (and some other cousins) swear they have no information at all regarding James's dad. How I wish, wish, wish, I had talked to Grandpa while he was still alive. On James's death certificate in the space for father is written "by an enemy of the family." Now, I don't know if that means James's father was an enemy of the family, or as someone related (and I wish I could remember who) told me that my grandpa said that James's father was killed by an enemy of the family. I would give anything to know the story and circumstances of Dianna's life during and after the Civil War. From what I have been told, her three children always remained very close even though all three had different fathers. As you probably know, James died at his sister Mary's house where he had gone to visit for Christmas.
I would like to swap information on lines if you need it. I don't have much on Clint other than the names of his wives and children. Look forward to hearing from you. Karen
